Sometimes you just want a family outing without thinking about the cost. Here are six things to do in Al Ain that are absolutely free. Since we live here, we know them well and frequent them often. We don't often hear of people visiting Dubai or Abu Dhabi and saying, "hey, let's go to Al Ain!", lol. But, in case you do, I've got you covered!

The Camel Souk

Tucked behind Bawadi Mall, the Camel Souk is a fun place to see hundreds of camels waiting to be sold. You can get out and walk around freely, though your free adventure will likely turn into a small tip anyway, camel tenders tend to expect a few dirhams if you want photos with the animals. Still, a small price for a genuinely up-close experience.

Jebel Hafeet

Jebel Hafeet rises 1,249 meters, offering an impressive view over the whole city, day or night. The road climbs 11.7 kilometers up the mountain through 21 corners, once called the greatest driving road in the world by Edmunds.com. At the top, you'll find a hotel, a palace belonging to the country's rulers, and a small cafeteria, along with plenty of photo opportunities.

Green Mubazzarah

A peaceful retreat at the foothills of Jebel Hafeet, perfect for a family picnic, a walk, or a swim. It gets busier in the evenings as temperatures dip, especially on holidays, so claim your grass spot early. You'll find hot-water springs, pools, playgrounds, chalets, a restaurant, a lake, a kids' train, and even a luge track.

Paradise Garden

A flower oasis that once drew around 1,000 visitors a day and held a Guinness World Record for the most hanging flower baskets in one park. Stroll among the flowers, take photos, and find a seat to soak it all in. (Updated, now permanently closed)

Hili Archaeological Park

The largest Bronze Age site in the UAE, dating to the 3rd millennium BC, home to the Great Hili Tomb and other remnants. The park itself is large, with plenty of playgrounds, pavilions, and walking paths, making it a genuinely great spot for families, not just history buffs.

Al Jahili Fort

Built by Sheikh Zayed the First in 1898, Al Jahili Fort is one of the great landmarks of the UAE's cultural heritage. The inner courtyard offers seating and a stage for concerts, worth a look even if history isn't usually your thing.

Duning and Camping

There's nothing like offroad duning in sands of Al Ain...nor getting stuck. LOL! But it's such a great way to bump into locals, as everyone loves doing it. You never know who will come help you dig out. And camping...so easy and so much fun, especially when camels walk right through your site. 

Of course there's more to do in Al Ain for free, but this should get you started.
